    Purpose: The Project Engineer will apply engineering principles to test, design, modify, and develop equipment and/or processes used in manufacturing products in facilities and collection sites.

     

     

    • Provides engineering design, support, quality assurance, training and direction on new installations and existing processes. Serves as an engineering resource for APC facilities and collection sites.
    • Directly manages and implements APC projects from design to development, as well as providing onsite presence in the field during those projects.
    • Provides oversight to outside engineering firms and consultants as necessary to ensure accurate and proper engineering designs.
    • Drives continuous improvement to overall quality, efficiency, processes and cost reduction initiatives by collaborating with APC facilities, collection sites and peer groups.
    • Actively participates in update meetings with the APC Plant Employees, Collection Site Employees and Engineering Team regarding engineering projects.
    • Leads or completes the engineering design and development, evaluation and justification of projects, project scope of work, budgeting, return on investment, equipment selection, coordination, contractor relations and onsite installation.
    • Performs and documents a project close out review for each project completed which will include a meeting with the engineering department to document all necessary and recommended changes to future or existing processes.
    • Promotes inter-plant collaboration by providing engineering support on an as-needed basis, regularly reporting project status, and following up with facility team leaders on cost reduction/process improvement ideas.
    • Analyzes product or equipment specifications and performance requirements to determine design, which can be produced by existing manufacturing or processing facilities and methods.
    • Analyzes engineering proposals, process requirements, and related technical data pertaining to industrial machinery and equipment design.
    • Determines feasibility of designing new processes or modifying existing processes considering costs, available space, time limitations, company planning, and other technical and economic factors.
    • Provides technical information concerning manufacturing or processing techniques, materials, properties, and process advantages and limitations which affect long range plant and product engineering planning.
    • Establishes clearly defined objectives and parameters prior to implementation and then compiles and analyzes operational, test, and research data to establish performance standards for newly designed or modified equipment.
    • Recognizes and implements applicable industry code, recommended practices, and local ordinances. This could include NFPA, ASME BPVC Section VIII and B31.3, API-620 / 653, NEC/NEMA/UL, etc.
    • Develops and prepares concise capital expenditure requests for approval, identifying scope, time lines, justification, alternate considerations, and ROI.
    • Generates and refines project design through the use of 2D and 3D CAD design tools.
    • Partners with Corporate Safety Manager, Engineering Team, Plant Personnel, Collection Site Employees and Contractors to promote safety and a safe working environment in all areas of operation.
    • Serves as Corporate Headquarters building contact for technical questions related to HVAC, electrical and building infrastructure. Also, may lead improvement projects related to the building.

    Abilities

    • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing with APC, Inc. personnel, contractors, vendors, suppliers, customers, and other business related contacts.
    • Prepare, understand, and interpret engineering construction plans, specifications, and other contract documents.
    • Maintain accurate and up to date project design files and drawings, and identifying and correcting safety, ergonomic, and operational problems through proper design of equipment.
    • Advanced knowledge of organizational methods and the ability to manage multiple tasks/projects simultaneously while prioritizing work effectively with minimum supervision or direction.
    • Direct the work of others effectively when performing supervisory duties.
    • Willingness to further professional education as needed.
    • Able to work daily and extended hours as necessary.
    • Able to travel and change schedule as required.
    • Maintain a high level of confidentiality related to all duties and responsibilities, such as the proprietary information of vendors and customers.

    Technical

    • Knowledge of engineering practices/principles and the ability to develop, analyze and implement engineering methods and procedures.
    • Knowledge of industrial engineering designs and drafting and the ability to modify plans to existing facilities.
    • Strong background in unit operation design, installation, and operation, with an emphasis on troubleshooting. Unit operations can include both wet and dry processing equipment such as pumps, heat exchangers, water extraction methods, spray drying, bulk powder transport, sizing and packaging.
    • Strong ability to apply applications of engineering principles and practices to solve specific problems in a timely manner.
    • Knowledge of manufacturing costs associated with implementing engineering designs and equipment and the ability to prepare written reports.
    • Efficient use of mechanical measurements, instrumentation skills along with mathematical, chemical, and cost analysis when necessary in the performance of duties.
    • AutoCAD and SolidWorks modeling and drafting skills necessary to provide efficient communications to all parties involved in the design process.
    • Understand process and product testing procedures employed by APC, Inc. including chemical, microbiological and physiological tests.
    • Familiar with regulations and codes involving electrical, construction, NFPA, OSHA, EPA, air quality as well as food safety, GMP and HAACP.
    • Understanding of electrical controls and power distribution, pneumatics, pumps, hydraulics, heat transfer and pressure applied theory.
    • Ability to modify and adapt equipment/machinery to advance product processes from theory to application.
    • Ability to operate all necessary office equipment and software required to accomplish job duties, such as, computers, Excel, Word, AutoCAD, Project Management Software, data collection equipment, cellular phones, fax machines, etc.

    Job Qualifications

    Education:

    • Preferred 4 year BS degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Agricultural or Industrial Engineering or related degree.

    Experience:

    • Five to ten years’ experience preferred in related fields pertaining to this job description. Must have experience with both 2D AutoCAD and preferred SolidWorks or other 3D CAD programs.

     

    Basic Qualifications & Experience:
