To support research projects by assisting with analytical analysis of samples, reporting data to researchers, prepare, blend and sample APC products, and to assist with laboratory maintenance and cleanliness. 

  • Quality assurance tests on samples and diets as needed, including pH, moisture, solids, ash, protein, temperature, color, weight, etc.
  • Collect, label, and process samples from research projects as defined by researcher or project request.
  • Provide needed assistance to colleagues to conduct some trials needed to achieve their objectives of R&D projects.
  • Maintain proper care and usage of laboratory and analytical equipment.
  • Maintain clean and safe working environment.
  • Clean equipment, piping, tank exteriors, floor drains, etc.
  • Clean hallways, floors, pilot plant, storage, and other work area.
  • Blending and preparing product samples.
  • Sampling and packaging of samples, diets, or blends for sending out for additional analysis.
  • Ordering supplies as directed.
  • Accurately sample data files on computer for R&D to aid in product and process traceability.
  • Assist the R&D team with data entry, data archiving, research, and organization of computer research archive as needed.
  • Maintain laboratory notebook, accurately recording projects and the results of experiments performed.
  • Works well in a team environment.
  • Keep facility in well maintained condition.
  • All other related duties as assigned by Sr. Dir. of R&D.

Job Requirements

  • Ability to work assigned hours (5-20 hrs. per week) with flexibility when required.
  • Superior math and observation skills.
  • Computer skills (Windows, Excel, Word).
  • Knowledge of basic science techniques.
  • Ability to operate some of the following equipment or conduct following techniques:
  • Drying systems
  • Ovens
  • pH meter
  • Moisture analysis
  • Computer controlled equipment
  • Variable speed pumps
  • Hot/stir plates
  • Centrifugation from small to large scale
  • LECO analyzer
  • Ability to effectively operate and maintain laboratory equipment used in research and development for food and feed.
  • Ability to interpret data as it pertains to laboratory analytical variation specifications.
  • Written and oral communication ability and skills.
  • Willingness to work with others and work as a team.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with research staff and other departments.
  • Ability to understand and communicate technical information.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to remain on task without being distracted.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to manage and maintain confidential information such as formulas and data from customers, R&D project, proprietary formulas, research methods/techniques and current or future projects.
  • Ability to operate all necessary office equipment required to accomplish job duties, such as, computers, telephones, fax machines, copiers, etc.
  • Knowledge of organizational methods and ability to manage multiple tasks/projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work daily and extended hours as necessary.
  • Ability to assist in other work related areas as requested.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure.
  • Ability to comply with all work related deadlines.
  • Valid driver’s license and an automobile.
  • Attention to detail and highly organized (i.e. think ahead to the next day).

Job Qualifications



High school diploma required. Student in pursuit of AS or BS degree in a science-focused area, such as Animal Science, Chemistry, Biology or Biotechnology is preferred.




Laboratory skills and knowledge of laboratory equipment and analytical techniques preferred.
